I saw this event coming up while eating breakfast.

I thought I'd capture it for posterity. :P

I'd forgotten about LJ's scrapbook feature. I can post the photos there. :)

I tried to get some action shots of the pidgeons while in London. I had a lot of blurry and empty photos to discard... :P

Before Christmas, I agreed to a shift-swap with one of my colleagues.
As luck would have it, I picked the perfect time to not be at work.
The temperatures plummeted, the snow came down, and I could sit safe at home and just think it was pretty...

I was given a Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD recorder a few months back. It worked fine for a while, then developed a fault, resetting whenever it tried to read a disk.
DSC00755

Some research on the net found this to be a common fault with this model. The voltage regulator overheats due to a design fault and fails, damaging some other components in the process.

I have a laptop, an Itronix IX250. It's one of those fully ruggedised water and shockproof ones you don't need a laptop bag for.
It is, however, one of the older models, not having built-in WiFi, so to utilize this facility, it needs an expansion card.

It has two Cardbus slots. The one on the left side is of conventional depth, and a WiFi card sticks out of the slot (as it's designed to do), but this would leaves it prone to damage if left in place, and also leaves the laptops internals unsealed, and the slot cover flapping.
The righthand slot is much deeper. It's designed to take a GSM phone card internally, which connects to an external aerial.
You can fit a WiFi card in this slot also, and it doesn't protrude, but unfortunately, being encased in magnesium alloy does seem to have an adverse effect on signal strength.

The solution? Wire the card to an external aerial!
The problem is that the existing aerial is designed for 800-900MHz cellphone signals, not 2.4GHz WiFi. Reports are that it doesn't work very well, and that the cards tend to stop working after a while.

These shots are from 2nd May when I was clearing out the old garage.
Not what I was expecting!

These have been sitting in my camera for nearly a month.
I've just been far too busy to upload them.

I'm not entirely sure what they are... Best Guesses are below the snaps. :P
